Real Ways to Write IEPs: Our Recent Workshop at CSU

We’re thrilled to share highlights from our recent workshop on Individualized Education Program (IEP) writing, held at Cleveland State University. This event brought together future educators eager to enhance their IEP development skills to support diverse learners more effectively.

A Hands-On Approach to IEP Writing

Your Real Educator Consultants understand that IEPs are the cornerstone of personalized education for students with special needs. Our workshop aimed to make IEP writing a manageable, empowering process by focusing on practical techniques and best practices. Educators participated in interactive exercises to enhance practical and student-centered IEP writing. Students learned about the legal requirements of writing an IEP and participated in hands-on activities around identifying the components of a SMART goal and real ways to write SMART goals that are tailored to students’ present levels of performance.

Building Skills in Writing SMART Goals

Our workshop was specifically tailored to help educators identify the core components of SMART goals—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound—and to craft goals that align closely with each student’s current level of performance. Through hands-on activities, participants learned how to assess students’ present abilities and translate those assessments into clear, realistic goals. This approach ensures that IEP goals are not only well-defined but also directly responsive to each student’s unique needs, making it easier to track progress and achieve meaningful outcomes.

Thank You, CSU!

We extend our thanks to Cleveland State University and everyone who attended and contributed to the success of this workshop. Together, we are building a stronger foundation for supporting all students in achieving their full potential.
